The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Committee of the
Central Highlands province of Kon Tum has granted scholarships, each
worth 500,000 VND, to 20 poor ethnic minority students.
Legislators responsible for the ethnic
minorities have heard proposals for better care for the targeted
population in the areas classed as the poorest of the poor to help lift
them out of poverty as soon as possible.
More than 48 billion VND has been
injected into a scheme to assist Khmer ethnic minority people in the
Mekong delta province of Vinh Long over the 2008-2010 period.
Vice Chairman of the Committee for
Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA) Son Phuoc Hoan has discussed with
Mexican government officials policies for indigenous people’s relating
to education, culture, health, hunger eradication, poverty reduction
and women and children’s issues.
Vietnam would like to set up
comprehensive partnerships with Kazakhstan , Denmark and Hungary for
the benefit of the people of each country and for the sake of peace,
stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Electricity of Lam Dong (ELD) connected
an additional 5,000 village ethnic households in the Central Highlands
province to the national grid, the power company said in an
announcement on September 2.
Education departments are asked to increase training for
disadvantaged school children, including those from ethnic groups, street children and disabled pupils.
A forum to promote investment in the Central Highlands
wrapped up in Buon Ma Thuot city on September 5 with more than 120
projects in various industries in the region sealed.
Almost 60 projects were inked in farm-forestry processing, 24 in
tourism, 20 in industry, eight in urban development and 10 in health
care, education and transport at the Forum on Investment Promotion for
the Central Highlands, initiated by the Central Highlands Steering
Committee, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Central
Highlands provinces.
Ten women from Vietnam ’s public sector have been awarded
scholarships and research grants by the UN Development Programme (UNDP)
and the Cambridge Overseas Trust foundation to undertake postgraduate
training at Cambridge University in England.
Veteran author Cao Duy Son’s short
story collection, Ngoi Nha Xua Ben Suoi (Old House by the Spring) has
won nomination for the Southeast Asian Writers Award for Vietnam this
year.
The improvement of population quality
is one of the major tasks set out in Vietnam’s Population Strategy
through 2020, demographer Duong Quoc Trong said at a press conference
in Hanoi, on August 20.
The Lam Dong bauxite mining project must ensure economic
effectiveness, environmental protection and sustainable development for
the Central Highlands, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
Twelve collectives and 12 individuals have been awarded
with certificates of merit for their brilliant achievements in

estimated 100 trillion VND (5.6 billion USD) in investment will be put
forth at a forum slated for Sept. 5 in Buon Ma Thuot city, in the
Central Highlands province of Dak Lak .
The Electricity Group of Vietnam ’s
Power Company No. 2 on August 6 launched a project to bring power to
Khmer ethnic minority people in the Mekong delta province of Soc Trang.
