ASEAN has issued a statement to emphasise the region’s tourism recovery, with hotel searches, occupancy rates and travel confidence rising.

The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control reached agreement at a meeting on May 28 that the country should not open door to all foreign tourists at this time, as risks of transmission from outside remain.

Singapore’s hotel occupancy rates have climbed to the highest levels in over a decade as travellers and business events switched from Hong Kong, where pro-democracy protests have slammed tourist numbers and wide business sentiment, Reuters reported.

Four- and five-star hotels in Ho Chi Minh City have seen a slight decline in room rates although the rising number of tourists has resulted in an increase in occupancy rates at high-end hotels.

Revenue per available room (RevPAR) for four and five-star hotels and resorts showed a sharp increase in H1 compared to a year earlier, rising 13.7 percent to 69.1 USD.
