Vietnamese people spend a total of 1.4-1.6 trillion VND (62.2-71.1 million USD) each year on treatment of dengue fever, a recent survey conducted by the Ministry of Health has revealed.
The Ministry of Health will set up five inspection teams to monitor dengue fever conditions throughout the country because of the complicated situation caused by dengue outbreaks.
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has asked the city’s departments and localities to intensify efforts to prevent dengue, which is developing complicatedly in the city and the southern region.
A recent diphtheria outbreak in Central Quang Nam province has been
successfully contained with no new cases reported and those who had
suffered from the disease recovered.
The first outbreak of diphtheria in many decades in the mountainous
Phuoc Loc commune of central Quang Nam province’s Phuoc Son district has
claimed the lives of three locals so far this year.
The rainy season’s intense heat and humidity together with poor
sanitation and loose control of disease-prone locations lie at the root
of epidemic outbreaks during summers, Director Tran Dac Phu from the
Department of Preventative Medicine revealed at a workshop held in Ho
Chi Minh City on May 15.
