The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN) is planning to launch a campaign to put an end to heavy trucks that had been modified to carry excess loads.
The number of traffic accidents caused by cars rose sharply nationwide over the last nine months, accounting for 33 percent of total cases, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC).
Transport authorities have prevented 31,000 trucks overloaded with goods or passengers from entering highways since early this year, the Vietnam Expressway Service Joint Stock Company (VEC) has said.
The number of traffic accident cases, deaths, and injuries declined in the first half of 2018, but the problem remains complex and the drops still fall short of expectations, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh said on July 5.

string of steps to be taken to clear business obstacles and spur
industrial and agro-production.
The domestic truck market has seen significant growth since the Ministry
of Transport's decision to increase control and oversight of overloaded
vehicles and ensure the safety of all drivers on the roads.
The
policy appears to have been successful, as the number of traffic
accidents since April has decreased and the transport sector seems to be
more competitive, especially the truck market.
Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang has set up a team to examine why
many sections of new roads and highways have subsided so quickly after
being opened.
The Vietnam Register Department under the Ministry of Transport now
requires all container truck drivers to attach photos of their original
truck to the registration certificate.
All the 100 automobile registration centres throughout the country
will be inspected, following a proposal issued during a recent meeting
at the Transport Ministry.
