Thailand's rice export is facing an unpromising outlook in the second half of 2020 amid sluggish global demand caused by the coronavirus crisis.

Exports of Thai rice have been on the rise as many countries are stocking up on food supplies due to the rampant COVID-19 outbreak, said President of the Thai Rice Exporters Association (TREA) Chookiat Ophaswongse.

A delegation of some 20 Chinese rice importers is visiting Vietnam for trade connection and promotion activities between May 6 and 10.

Rice is one of Vietnam’s major exports and Vietnam has maintained the position as one of the world’s top ten biggest rice exporters for many years.

Vietnamese rice exports have got off to a positive start right from the outset of the year, with promising signs from traditional rice importers like the Philippines and Indonesia.

Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce has bolstered rice exports to Hong Kong (China) and invited rice importers from Hong Kong to discuss the import of Thai rice in the coming time, reported Thai media on November 1.
