Cambodia exported 153,688 tonnes of milled rice in the first quarter of 2021, a year-on-year drop of 33 percent, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Veng Sakhon has said.
High hopes are pinned on Vietnam’s rice exports in 2021 when major export markets such as the Philippines and Africa continue to sign contracts to buy rice from Vietnam, while many others have great demand for fragrant rice and sticky rice – which are advantageous staples of Vietnamese enterprises.
This is a tough year for Thailand’s rice sector due to prolonged droughts in the northeast and strong baht (THB), said Honorary President of the Thai Rice Exporters Association Chookiat Ophaswongse.
Vietnam shipped abroad some 3.76 million tonnes of rice worth 1.69 billion USD between January and September, dropping 16.4 percent in volume and 12.5 percent in value from a year earlier.
Vietnam’s rice exports are likely to reach 6.8 million tonnes in 2015, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Centre for Informatics and Statistics.
