The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said Thailand’s sugar and sugarcane production is forecast to decline in the 2018-19 crop due to unfavourable weather conditions.
Vietnam will keep its sugarcane growing area stable at 300,000 hectares until 2030 in parallel with increasing sugar output and quality, according to a plan on the sugar industry’s development until 2020 with a vision to 2030.
Thailand posted a net sugar output in the 2015-16 sugar cane harvest at 9.7 million tonnes, produced from 94 million tonnes of sugar cane, lower than the previous crop.
Sugar mills nationwide turned out 1.2 million tonnes of sugar in the 2015-2016 sugarcane crop, a fall of 1.4 million tonnes from the previous crop, said the Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association.
