After two consecutive years of decrease, tra fish exports to the European Union (EU) have bounced back.

Vietnam’s Pangasius (tra fish) exports in January 2022 surged nearly 73 percent year-on-year to 213.6 million USD, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Tra fish prices have hit a new high since 2019, but insiders are concerned that high prices do not bode well for farmers.

Revenue from tra fish exports is expected to reach 1.7 billion USD thanks to adaptation efforts of businesses and effective support from the State, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The Tra fish industry aims to earn 1.6 billion USD from tra fish export, and produce between 1.6 – 1.7 million tonnes of tra fish products in 2022, according to Nhu Van Can, head of the Aquaculture Department of the Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Pangasius (tra fish) exports topped 1.61 billion USD last year, an 8.4 percent rise from 2020, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Revenue from tra fish exports is expected to reach 1.7 billion USD thanks to adaptation efforts of businesses and effective support from the State, Truong Dinh Hoe, General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), has said.

Vietnam's aquaculture output is estimated at 4.75 million tonnes this year, rising by some 4.17 percent from 2020, according to the Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Vietnam would earn 1.54 billion USD from tra fish export this year, up 3 percent from 2020, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) forecast.

Overseas shipments of tra fish are expected to bring about 1.54 billion USD in revenue this year, said Le Hang, deputy head of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP)’s training and promotion centre.

Tra (pangasius) fish exports to Brazil are expected to grow in the last months of 2021 despite facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam’s aquatic product exports are likely to rake in 9 billion USD this year thanks to the implementation of new generation free trade agreements, according to experts.

Fisheries exports declined 4 percent year on year in July after surging 15 percent to earn 4.1 billion USD in the first half of 2021 as the COVID-19 outbreak has forced many seafood processing plants in the south to suspend production, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Vietnam’s aquatic export is hoped to hit 9 billion USD in 2021 thanks to the recovery of consumption in key markets such as the US, the European Union (EU), and other potential markets.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) forecasts that Vietnam's tra fish (pangasius) exports will continue to grow in the coming months thanks to the control of the COVID-19 pandemic in importing countries, said VASEP Secretary Truong Dinh Hoe.

Vietnam earned 790 million USD from exporting aquatic products in May, lifting the total figure in the first five months of this year to nearly 3.3 billion USD, a year-on-year rise of 14 percent.

The export of key aquatic products posted strong rises in many markets in the first quarter of 2021, increasing Vietnam’s aquatic export turnover by 3 percent to 1.64 billion USD.

Vietnam’s export turnover of aquatic products in March has been estimated at around 640 million USD, bringing the total for the first quarter of the year to 1.64 billion USD, up 3 percent year-on-year.

The Mekong Delta province of Long An targets at least 60,000 tonnes of aquaculture production this year, about 2,000 tonnes higher than in 2020.

Exports of tra fish (pangasius) to China and Hong Kong in the first half of February this year suffered a sharp plunge, according to a report released by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
