A UN Women delegation led by its President of Executive Board Gonzalo
Koncke Pizzorno shared experience in promoting gender equality with the
Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) of the central city of Da Nang at a meeting
on December 10.
More than 300 volunteers in the central city of Da Nang joined a
meeting on November 30 to support the campaign of preventing domestic
violence against women and girls.
The Vietnam Farmers’ Union and the United Nations Population Fund
co-organised a running event in Hanoi on November 23 in response to the
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and
Girls (November 25).
Vietnam is well aware that gender equality is a basic human right which
is both a national objective and an important factor to the
socio-economic development, National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairwoman Tong
Thi Phong said at a meeting on gender equality in Hanoi on October
28.

Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said she hoped the Inter-Parliamentary
Union (IPU) would enhance its role in promoting gender equality as part
of the post-2015 sustainable development targets.

host of activities at the ongoing 131st Inter-Parliamentary Union
(IPU) Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
The International Association For Official Statistics (IAOS) is
organising a conference in the central city of Da Nang on October 8-10,
according to the Vietnamese General Statistics Office (GSO).
The 35th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly
(AIPA-35) with the theme “Strengthening parliamentary cooperation within
ASEAN Community” opened in Vientiane, Laos on September 16.

The United Nations
Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture,
Sports and Tourism on December 10 jointly launched a domestic violence
prevention and control network.
An action plan for 2014 to further promote and protect the rights of
women and children have been adopted at a recent meeting of the ASEAN
Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and
Children (ACWC), said the ASEAN Secretariat.
A meeting in response to the International Day for Elimination of
Violence against Women (November 25) was organised in the northern
province of Hai Duong on November 26.
A parade took place in Hanoi on November 24, International Day for
the Elimination of Violence against Women, in an effort to raise public
awareness of gender equality.
