Furniture expo to open next week

Some 150 local and foreign enterprises are taking part in the Vietnam International Furniture & Home Accessories Fair 2010 (VIF 2010) which will take place from March 11 to 14 at Saigon Conventional & Exhibition Centre in HCM City ’s district 7.

Garment and textile sector leads nation’s exports

The garment and textile sector performed well in 2009, leading as the nation’s major export item despite impacts of the global economic slowdown, according to the General Office of Statistics.

Garment and textiles earned over 9 billion USD, a decrease of 1.3 percent since the previous year. However, the sector did surpass crude oil’s year-end revenue, which once led the country’s export list.

ADB revises up Vietnam’s GDP projection to 4.7%

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on September 22 revised up its GDP growth forecast for Vietnam for 2009 from 4.5 percent projected in March this year to 4.7 percent and maintained its projected growth of 6.5 percent for 2010.

The projections are part of the Asian Development Outlook Update 2009 which lowered its 2009 growth forecast for Southeast Asia to 0.1 percent from 0.7 percent and upgraded its economic growth forecast for 2009 in East Asia and South Asia to 4.4 percent and 5.6 percent respectively.

Farmers get 3.3 billion USD package

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced a 60 trillion VND stimulus package for farmers that focuses on investment in infrastructure and exports.

Wood product exports improving

The export value of wood products saw a year-on-year decline of 15.2 percent for the first eight months of this year to 1.55 billion USD but last month it increased by 10 million to 210 million USD from July.
