Talented footballers honoured at Golden Ball Award ceremony

A ceremony for the 2009 Vietnam Golden Ball Awards took place on May 17 in Ho Chi Minh City to honour the country’s most talented footballers.
A ceremony for the 2009 Vietnam Golden Ball Awards took place on May 17 in Ho Chi Minh City to honour the country’s most talented footballers.

Striker Pham Thanh Luong who plays for Hanoian club ACB won the Golden Ball while, Nguyen Vu Phong from Becamex Binh Duong received the Silver Ball, Dong Thap Rubber’s goalkeeper Bui Tan Truong earned the Bronze Ball title.

The award for Most Outstanding Young Player went to Nguyen Trong Hoang from Song Lam Nghe An and the title of Best Foreign Player was presented to Gaston Merlo of SHB-Da Nang.

Also on the occasion, retired footballers Le Huynh Duc and Le Cong Vinh were also awarded insignia for their contributions to the development of football in Vietnam over the years.

First initiated by the Sai Gon Liberation newspaper 15 years ago, the Vietnam Golden Ball Award paid homage to the country’s most outstanding footballers for their contributions to Vietnamese football./.
