Tay Ninh (VNA) – Representatives from the People’s Committee, People's Council and Fatherland Front Committee of southwestern Tay Ninh province on April 8 presented gifts to Khmer people in Tan Chau district on the occasion of the ethnic minority group’s Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival.

In the recent time, local authorities have been following guidelines set by the Party, and policies and laws of the State, especially those related to ethnic affairs, while respecting and guaranteeing people's right to freedom of religion and belief.

Socio-economic development programmes and projects implemented in Tay Ninh have brought practical benefits to the Khmer community.

Chol Chnam Thmay is one of the most important festivals of the Khmer people. It usually lasts three days and is celebrated primarily in pagodas. The festival demonstrates the Khmer people’s aspirations to move on from the old year and look forward to a promising new one.

The festival runs from April 14 to 16 this year./.
