An inter-ministerial team to prevent illegal publishing has just been activated to fight against the spread of the phenomenon in the country.

The team’s members from the ministries of Information and Communications, Public Security and Finance are responsible for making regular and irregular inspections of publishing houses and bookstores.
The team also has to establish operational branches nationwide.

Nguyen Kiem, head of the ministry’s Publishing Department, said that there are now 20,000 small-sized printing shops in the country. There are many places where pirated books could be released. Most of the private companies have invested in modern equipment, which allowed them to print books quickly and release them before the cultural authorities could inspect their business.

Nguyen Manh Hung, chief inspector of the Ministry of Information and Communications, said that the team has been given the green light to act independently and follow leads when they were uncovered in order to maximise the unit’s effectiveness.

Do Thi Tinh, deputy chief inspector of the ministry said that the team has established two hotlines, 04.3254031 and 04.35563966, so that concerned citizens could inform the authorities about questionable activities.

The inspectors have also suggested that administrative punishment for illegal printers should be much more severe./.
