Export of telephone products of all kinds and spare parts by mid-September this year brought home nearly eight billion USD, ranking second among the top ten foreign currency earners for the country.

The figure represents a year-on-year increase of 123 percent, the largest growth rate compared to other major export staples such as crude oil, textiles and garment and electronic products, the Vietnam Economic Times cited statistics of the General Customs Department in its September 27 issue.

The European Union is the biggest importer of made-in-Vietnam telephones and parts with 3.16 billion USD in the first eight months of this year. The United Arab Emirates came second with 885 million USD, followed by Russia of 442 million USD.

The robust export growth of telephones indicates the development of Vietnam’s electronics industry, contributing to the country’s total export turnover in the reviewed period, said the newspaper.

It is expected that export of electronics products will reach about 15 to 16 billion USD this year.-VNA
