– Ten bodies have been found in a landslide that left 22 officers and soldiers of the Defence - Economic Division 337 under Military Zone 4 missing in Huong Phung commune, Huong Hoa district, the central province of Quang Tri. 

Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ha Sy Dong said on October 18 that the incident occurred at 1:25am the same day in Cop hamlet where 27 officers and soldiers of the division stayed to help local residents overcome disaster consequences. Five of them have been saved.

Later on 6:30am, a local search and rescue team including police, militia and residents arrived at the scene.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Hung convened an urgent meeting to discuss support for areas hit by flooding and landslides. He directed promptly establishing a Front Command in Khe Sanh town, Huong Hoa district led by Vice Chairman Dong and his counterpart Le Duc Tien to deal with contingencies.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam asked medical staff to stay ready to help victims. Logistics forces must be willing to serve on all fronts.

Office of the provincial People’s Committee issued an urgent dispatch warning residents to stay vigilant to uncertain developments of flooding.

The province is proposing Defence Ministry deploy a helicopter for search and rescue work as many roads have been blocked due to landslides./.
