Ba Ria-Vung Tau (VNA) – The BV 98869 TS fishing vessel rescued 10 foreign sailors and sent them to the Ben Da border post in the southern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau on December 19, said the provincial Border Guard High Command.

When returning to Vung Tau province on December 18, Vo Quoc Truong, owner and captain of the vessel, found a strange object afloat the sea about 25 nautical miles southeast of Con Dao island.

He discovered 10 people on a lifebuoy and asked his crew members to bring those in distress to his ship.

Afterwards, Truong and his men took care of and cooked for the foreign sailors. Then the ship continued its journey to the Ben Da border post and the foreigners were handed over to local authorities.

The sailors were identified as citizens of Myanmar, the Philippines and Singapore.

According to the National Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue office, an oil tanker of Malaysia suffered a broken engine and then sank on the early morning of December 18 at a location about 75 nautical miles south-southeast of Vung Tau city. -VNA
