Tuyen Quang (VNA) – The Steering Committee for the Northwestern Region on January 11 presented gifts to low-income earners and ethnic minority people in Tuyen Quang province on the occasion of the approaching Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

The gifts, each worth 500,000 VND (20 USD), donated by organisations and businesses nationwide, were granted to 200 residents in Na Hang and Lam Binh districts.

The steering committee also provided the People’s Committees of Na Hang’s Thanh Tuong commune and Lam Binh’s Binh An commune, each with 5 million VND (222.7 USD).

Presenting the gifts, Le Van Lam – deputy head of the steering committee – wished residents in Na Hang and Lam Binh districts a happy new year and hoped for their continued efforts to improve local living standards.

Tuyen Quang, a mountainous province, is home to 22 ethnic minority groups, counting for more than 50 percent of the population of over 700,000.

It is among the 12 provinces that the Steering Committee for the Northwestern Region takes charge of. The committee is also responsible for some western districts of the central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.-VNA
