As many as 150 gifts on January 14 were presented to poor children being treated at the National Hospital of Paediatrics on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet).

This was part of a programme to support the poor during the Tet festival co-organised by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the “Golden Heart” Fund of Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper.

The programme has received support from many donors nationwide, including the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), the Hanoi Alcohol, Beer and Beverage Joint Stock Company (Habeco) and the Hanoi Textile-Garment Company (Hanosimex).

In 2014, the programme will provide 2.7 billion VND (126,900 USD) for underprivileged people and those affected by disasters, and one billion VND for poor labourers.

It will also help fishermen, poor patients and children in remote areas.-VNA
