State officials on January 30 presented gifts to the poor in the Mekong Delta provinces of Ben Tre and Hau Giang as the Lunar New Year holiday (Tet) is just less than one month away.

National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Ben Tre officials gave 4,800 gift packages to low-income people. The presents, worth over 2 billion VND (95,200 USD), were donated by businesses in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In nearby Hau Giang province, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan presented Tet gifts to poor families and Agent Orane/Dioxin victims in Dai Thanh commune, Nga Bay township.

In addition to the State’s supports, the poor and AO/Dioxin victims in Hau Giang also received more than 66,000 gifts contributed by the public.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh the same day delivered 100 Tet packages to impoverished households and policy beneficiary families in Hoa An commune, Hau Giang’s Phung Hiep district.

During their visits, the officials asked local authorities to ensure a merry Tet for all people, especially disadvantaged households.-VNA
