Thailand’s military chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha on May 15 declared that the army would use force to maintain law and order if violent demonstrations continue in response to the ongoing political crises.

The declaration was made after three people were killed and over 20 others injured in a gun and grenade attack at a rally site in Bangkok in the early morning.

After the attack, a number of anti-government protesters rushed to a military compound and disrupted a key meeting on the fate of the controversial July elections, forcing caretaker Prime Minister Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan to delay the talks.

In the past six months, clashes during demonstrations have killed 28 people and injured hundreds of others.-VNA
