Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has requested that urged the Red River delta province of Thai Binh set concrete targets in order to mobilise every resources for economic development in the five coming years.

The province needs to take its advantage of its abundant workforce, promote scientific and technological application in industrial and agricultural production, thus making a great leap, PM Dung told provincial key officials while inspecting the socio-economic performance and rural development in Thai Binh on May 10.

It also needs to continue administrative reform to attract more investment, particularly in hi-tech and environment projects, the PM added.

He praised efforts of Thai Binh provincial Party Committee, authorities and people to obtain considerable achievements in all fields. Provincial GDP has constantly registered a two-digit growth rate, averaging over 12 percent for the 2006-2010 period. The province has fulfilled its socio-economic targets, maintained political security and social order and improved the people’s life.

However, Thai Binh is still an agriculture-based province with low economic competitiveness and ineffective economic restructuring, the PM pointed out.

He asked the province to assess and overcome difficulties to achieve the 2010 GDP target of 14 percent.

The PM also gave comments on the province’s proposals relating to the exploration and exploitation of the Red River deep coal reserve, projects on road and bridge linking Thai Binh and Ha Nam provinces, coastal highway, sand embankment in Diem Dien port, and the construction of a 1,000-bed hospital.
