The Thai Cabinet on November 12 gave the green light to the second phase of an eco-car project which is aimed to support investment in eco-car production.

Government Spokesperson Teerat Ratanasevi revealed that during the phase, manufacturers will be entitled to investment support under the condition that they invest in an integrated production system, from car parts production to assembly.

He said each producer under the project will have to produce at least 100,000 eco-cars per year, with the minimum investment of 6.5 billion THB. The fuel consumption rate of the eco-cars will have to be no more than 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres.

The spokesperson also expected the new phase to be materialised in 2015 and expressed his belief that the project will create at least 40 billion THB worth of investment in eco-car production.-VNA
