Thailand ’s Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) has opened a new office in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia , to assist Thai restaurant owners and workers there.
SBPAC Secretary-General Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong said that the new office is a cooperative effort between SBPAC and the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to improve the standards of Thai restaurants in Malaysia .
A number of Muslim Thais from the five southernmost provinces and other parts of Thailand have operated around 5,000-6,000 restaurants in all Malaysian states. At least 120,000 Thais are working in these restaurants.
The SBPAC’s office in Kuala Lumpur is located at WISMA PTA Building in the Kampung Baru area. It serves as a learning centre to provide training in Thai cooking and the Thai language for Thai workers and the children of Thai restaurant operators.
Resource persons from the National Food Institute of Thailand, the Department of Skill Development, and the Ministry of Commerce will be invited to help enhance the potential of Thai restaurant operators in Malaysia .
Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Thailand, said that the establishment of the SBPAC office is in line with the Thai government’s policy of developing Thailand into the “Kitchen of the World.”
It will provide opportunities for entrepreneurs in the five southern border provinces to bring local products for sale in Malaysia.-VNA
