Thailand’s Criminal Court on May 25 approved an arrest warrant for fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on terrorism charges in connection with violent protest of Red Shirts.

Naras Savestanan, deputy chief of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said the court found enough evidence for the issuance of the arrest warrant.

The court also agreed with a police request to extend detention of five leaders of the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) charged with breaking the emergency law.

It approved to extend their detention for seven more days from May 26 to June 1, for further questioning.

The five detainees were the first UDD leaders, who surrendered to police, on May 19.

Also on the same day, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban announced that the government approved extending the curfew in Bangkok and 23 provinces for four more days from May 25./.
