Deputy spokesman of the Thai National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), Col. Nathawat Chancharoen has said that the Finance Ministry and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives will dole out 92 billion THB (2.88 billion USD) to pay farmers who mortgaged rice with the government but have not been paid.

Nathawat made the statement after a May 25 meeting of NCPO on economic affairs under the monitoring of air force chief Prajin Jantong.

Prajin Jantong said the most urgent economic issue up for discussion was the outstanding payment to be made to farmers.

More than 800,000 farmers will receive payment during a period of one month, starting from May 26. The money will be paid at various army and air force stations across the country, he said.-VNA
