Thailand’s gem and jewellery exports this year were expected to exceed 400 billion THB, according to the Gem and Jewellery Traders Association.
The forecast was based on the uptrend of the industry which saw 6-7 percent growth with over 400 billion THB expected this year, association president Somchai Pornchindarak said.
The upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) integration next year will also contribute to the growth of gems and jewellery exports, he said.
In addition, gem and jewellery are not covered by the proposed heritage tax and that is another reason added to its growth.
A gems and jewellery exhibition which called the 54th Bangkok Gems & Jewellery will be hosted in the capital of Thailand by the association in early next month. The event could draw over 300,000 visitors with trade value worth 40 billion THB is expected.-VNA
