Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has assured the United Nations of her government’s intention to promote and protect human rights and democracy.
During her meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay as part of her official visit to Switzerland, the Thai Premier said that her government has always placed its emphasis on human rights and democracy, as these two pillars are the heart of the government.
She gave an example of the Rohingya asylum seekers, affirming that Thailand will take good care of these migrants and find the best solution for them.
The Premier expressed her willingness for Thailand to be a bridge for those with different views on human rights.
Yingluck also took this opportunity to express her desire to become a member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2015-2017 term.
In addition, she informed Pillay of the Thai government’s plan to seek reconciliation to the current political deadlock, saying she is seeking for participation from all sides in the process, so that a mutual agreement could be made.-VNA
