Thailand's revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej on December 5 called on people nationwide to unite for the country's stability.

Addressing a ceremony to mark his 86th birthday, the King said Thailand has become normal thanks to the people’s solidarity, urging every Thai to perform their duties to promote benefits, stability and security of the nation.

The live broadcast birthday ceremony held at the Rajapracha Samakhom Pavillion of Klai Kanwon Palace in Hua Hin, about 190 km south of Bangkok, saw the presence of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, army commanders and opponent politicians.

The same day, Thai Navy Commander Narong Pipatanasai reaffirmed that there will be no a coup d'état staged by the army if political instabilities continue after the King’s birthday celebration.

He reiterated that the army will not have any intervention in this issue.
