A general election to form a new government is the only way to help Thailand escape from the current political crisis, Thai new caretaker Prime Minister Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan said on May 12.

Niwattumrong, who took the helm on May 7 immediately after Yingluck Shinawatra was stripped of her power, stated that the government will do its best to make the election take place.

He said that there will not be a civil war in Thailand, adding that the government is open for dialogue for protesters.

Thailand’s Constitutional Court decided to remove Yingluck from her position after finding her guilty of abusing power by sanctioning the removal of a security chief in 2011.

The Thai government plans to hold a general election on July 20.-VNA
