Bangkok (VNA) – Senior officials and representatives of several Thai companies visited the Vietnamese Embassy to the country on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (August 6, 1976).

During the visit on August 6, General Prem Tinsulanonda, head of the Thai King’s Privy Council and former Prime Minister, congratulated Vietnam on its national development over the last three decades of reforms.

He lauded the two Governments’ efforts to intensify bilateral relations on the basis of the strategic partnership set up in June 2013.

Three other former PMs, Anand Panyarachun, Surayud Chulanont and Thanin Kravixien, and ex-foreign ministers Bhichai Rattakul, Arsa Sarasin and Prachuab Chaiyasan hailed the countries’ friendship and praised Vietnamese people’s contribution to local development.

They said that both sides need to press on with all-round relations, from politics, defence, economics to people-to-people exchange.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh thanked his guests, including Deputy Foreign Minister Virasakdi Futrakul, for helping the countries’ partnership.

They also recalled milestones in Vietnamese-Thai relations, especially the role of late President Ho Chi Minh and late PM Pridi Banomyong, who laid the foundations for bilateral ties.-VNA
