Ratchanok Intanon on August 11 beat China’s Olympic gold medalist Li Xuerui 2-1 to become the champion in women’s singles at the World Badminton Championship held in Guangzhou, China.

Ratchanok, or “Nong May”, defeated Li 22-20 in the first game but lost 18-21 in the next. She then recovered and won the final game 21-14, making history as Thailand ’s first ever player to win the world badminton championships. She made China ’s women’s singles championship record stop at eight.

Nong May, 18, is also the youngest badminton player who won a world championship title.-VNA
