Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has called for a reduction in the use of martial law, which has been placed nationwide since the coup in May last year.

According to the Prime Minister, the government has substantially decreased its use of martial law, except in the case of urgent investigations.

He said Thailand has focused on using civilian courts and normal laws.

The army imposed martial law days before the coup. It claimed that the measure was necessary to prevent further bloodshed after months of protests that left nearly 30 deaths.-VNA
