Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha embarked on his first official international trip to neighbouring Myanmar on October 9.
The aim of the visit is to discuss bilateral ties and launch a number of development projects, including the Dawei deep-sea port and real estate projects in Tanintharyi region, Southern Myanmar.
Prayut Chan-o-cha is scheduled to hold talks with President U Thein Sein on several matters, such as bilateral trade, border security and support for Myanmar migrant labourers living in Thailand.
Statistics show that Thailand is currently Myanmar’s number one trade partner, with two-way trade between the neighbours reaching 5.6 billion USD between 2013 and 2014. Furthermore, Thailand is the second largest investor in Myanmar, with investments of more than 10 billion USD by June, accounting for 21.65 percent of the country’s total foreign investment.-VNA
