The Thai metropolitan police have been instructed to beef up security in the capital and be on guard against possible bomb attacks from September 16-20.

Responding to instructions by acting police chief Gen Thani Sombunsap on September 16, the metropolitan police will set up road check points and increase patrols at sensitive spots, “The Nation” newspaper reported.

The official also instructed the bureau to guard important places such as the offices of the Constitutional Court, the Administrative Court, the Election Commission and the National Anti-Corruption Commission as well as the houses of privy councillors and members of all commissions.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban once again warned red-shirts who plan a mass anti-government protest on September 19 to stay within the law and follow democratic principles.

“If the rally gets out of control, the government will impose measures to control the situation as it is duty bound to maintain peace and order,” he was quoted by the Bangkok Post as saying./.
