Bangkok,  (VNA) Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn on February 8 held that the nomination of his elder sister by a political party for the position of the Prime Minister if it wins the upcoming election is improper and unconstitutional.

Earlier the same day, Thai Raksa Chart, the political party close to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, nominated Princess Ubolratana as its only candidate for the position if it wins the election slated for March 24.

For her part, the Princess the same day stated that she is implementing her citizen’s right as she accepted the nomination by a political party. On her personal Instagram account, the 67-year-old Princess said she abandons her royal status and lives as a common citizen.

She further added that her acceptance of the nomination manifests the right and freedom without any privilege over other Thai citizens within the framework of the provisions by the Constitution.-VNA
