Thailand 's Senate on November 11 debated a controversial amnesty bill which is believed to pave the way for the return of the country’s ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

The debate should have been held on November 8 but was delayed.

On November 9, the ruling coalition led by the Pheu Thai party, who proposed the bill, signed a ratification pledging they would not bring the bill back for discussion again.

However, anti-government protestors still rallied in Bangkok on November 11. Some 7,000 police officers were deployed to protect the parliament building and the prime minister’s office.-VNA
