Thailand: 29 killed in bus accident

A bus carrying travellers plunged off into a deep ravine in northeast Thailand, leaving at least 29 people dead, local police said.
A bus carrying travellers plunged off into a deep ravine in northeastThailand, leaving at least 29 people dead, local police said.

The accident occurred on the night of December 26 in Lom Sak district,Phetchabun province while the bus was en route to the northern provinceof Chiang Rai.

Twenty-eight bodies were found in the ravine, one other person died on the way to hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the bus was travelling very fast before theaccident. Police suspect the bus driver fell asleep at the wheel.

A recent report by the World Health Organisation said the country sawsome 38.1 road deaths per 100,000 people, compared to an average of18.5 in Southeast Asia as a whole.-VNA
