Bangkok (VNA) – The Ministry of Health of Thailand has said that some workers at a Bangkok constructions site have tested positive for both the Alpha and Delta variants of SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19

Thailand’s Medical Sciences Department director-general Dr. Supakit Sirilak announced the findings on July 12, adding that the cases are not severe. As of now, the patients remain fit and have not developed worrisome symptoms, said Dr Supakit.

However, he expressed his concern that more cases of mixed infection could lead to a hybrid and eventually, a new variant, which is something health officials around the world have been worried about.

Discussing COVID-19 variants in Thailand, Dr Supakit said the highly contagious Delta was close to becoming the dominant strain in the country, replacing Alpha.

Thailand recorded 8,685 infections on July 13, bringing the national tally to 353,712, and 56 fatalities, raising the number of deaths to 2,847./.
