Bangkok (VNA) - Thai police on November 30 arrested three men suspected of planning bomb attacks at tourist sites in Bangkok and nearby provinces.

Deputy National Police Chief Srivara Ransibrahmanakul told reporters that the three hailed from Thailand's Muslim-majority south and they planned attacks on six locations. He also said that they are not separatists.

In a statement, police said the attack plots aimed to create unrest.

Bombings are common in the three southernmost provinces, including Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, where the insurgency has killed more than 6,500 people since 2004.

However, a wave of bombs in famous tourist sites outside these southern provinces in August killed four Thai people and wounded dozens, including foreigners.  No group has claimed responsibility for those attacks.-VNA
