Hanoi (VNA) – Thai Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaiwut Thanakhamanusorn has proposed an ASEAN committee be set up to focus on fraud prevention from call centre gangs.

He made the proposal at the third ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting held in Boracay, the Philippines, from February 6 to 10.

The official pointed out that as cybercrime is an urgent problem among ASEAN members, regional cooperation is needed.

His proposal received support from participants in the meeting, which attracted representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, the 10 member states, dialogue partner states, and the International Telecommunication Union.

Themed “Synergy Towards a Sustainable Digital Future”, this year's meeting focused on digital cooperation, including ASEAN-EU cooperation in information sharing and artificial intelligence.

It also discussed projects in 2023 that support the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025, and the building of stronger partnerships among member states in promoting safe cyberspace, people-centred governance, digital inclusion, and innovation-based economy./.
