Thailand, Cambodia discuss border dispute
The deputy commander-in-chief of
Cambodia's armed forces and Thailand's Foreign
Minister pledged no more clashes and resolve the dispute by
peaceful means.
The deputy commander-in-chief of
Cambodia 's armed forces, Gen. Chea Dara, and Thailand 's Foreign
Minister Kasit Piromya held a brief talk on the border situation and
exchanged pledges to have no more clashes and resolve the dispute by
peaceful means.
The talk was held during the Thai FM’s visit to the area near Preah Vihear Temple on September 13, according to Cambodian National Defence Ministry Spokesman Chhum Socheat.
Socheat said Kasit also pledged to persuade the Thai Congress to quickly approve border marker planting with Cambodia and instruct Thai soldiers not to engage Cambodian armed forces.
Kasit's visit took place more than two weeks after Cambodia withdrew half of its troops from the disputed area to ease tensions./.
