The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is confident that the domestic tourism industry will experience growth in the second quater.
According to TAT Governor Thawatchai Aranyik, the Songkran festival can attract more foreign tourists to Thailand. The report from the Asia and South Pacific office said 227 flights will bring visitors to the country during this year's festival and the local tourism sector will enjoy a 45.5 percent growth when compared to 2013's.
Top destinations are Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi. Most foreign tourists are from China, Chinese Hongkong, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Australia.
The governor said the TAT will closely monitor the effects of the political rally on the 2014 tourism revenue target of 2 trillion THB, after the country lost 8 percent of tourists in the first quarter of this year.-VNA
