Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej has approved the end of martial law, imposed since the May coup last year.
In a recent televised statement, the Thai government confirmed that martial law was lifted throughout the country as of April 1.
Martial law has been maintained since the army toppled former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and seized power during a coup on May 22, following months of antigovernment rallies that often included fatal violence.
