Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand expects a 10-percent increase in tourism revenue to 597 billion THB in the third quarter of this year.

Thai Tourism and Sports Minister KobkarnWattanavrangkul said that factors supporting this projection include the “12 Can't-Miss Cities” campaign, increases in the number of public holidays, the push for domestic tourism, the opening of new low-cost flights, low oil prices, successful tourism marketing, and investments in tourism in the CLMVT (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand) countries.

During the second quarter, the Thai tourism sector generated 571 billion THB, an increase of 11.8 percent from the same period last year. Over 7.5 million foreign tourists travelled to the Kingdom during this period, a yea-on-year increase of 8 percent. Overseas tourists brought in 362 billion THB in revenue, up 13 percent.

Over 37 million Thais travelled domestically during the second quarter, marking an increase of 3 percent from the same period last year and generating 208 billion THB in revenue.

In the first seven months of this year, the sector earned a total of 1.37 trillion THB in revenue, a year-on-year increase of 13.95 percent.-VNA
