Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The Foreign Ministry of Thailand took a group of foreign ambassadors and their spouses on a field trip to study the royal initiative projects in Phang Nga province, southern Thailand.

During the weekend field trip, the foreign diplomats visited the Third Naval Area Command in Thai Mueang district to observe activities carried out by the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre. The main activities include raising and treating sea turtles before releasing them into the Andaman Sea.

The entourage then visited the Chaipattana - Thai Red Cross Village Project in Kuraburi district. There, the group observed the project’s activities to promote and develop careers as well as efforts to rehabilitate and conserve the village’s natural resources and environment, following the tsunami disaster in 2004. The activities are carried out in accordance with the royal initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who wishes for the people to have accommodations and sustainable careers in line with the Sufficiency Economy philosophy.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Virasakdi Futrakul, said the project of taking foreign ambassadors and their spouses to observe and study the royal initiative projects will allow them to experience the local way of life and understand the country’s history, besides the popular tourist destinations. He said the project has received a positive response from the foreign diplomats, who have expressed their admiration for His Majesty King Rama IX for his selfless sacrifice for the people.–NNT/VNA
