Thailand and Indonesia plan to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on fishery cooperation during Thai Minister for Agriculture Yukol Limlamthong’s visit to Indonesia slated for this year’s end, according to the National News Bureau of Thailand.
Speaking at a recent reception for Indonesian Foreign Minister R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa in Thailand, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has said the Thai Government will work closely with Indonesia in the fishery field to bring sustainable benefits to both sides.
On the occasion, Yingluck also extended her gratitude to Indonesia for its scholarships provided for Thai students living in the South of Thailand, adding that the knowledge the students have gained will be beneficial to the southern region’s development as well as help promote peace in the area.
The two countries recently also agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in many fields such as economics, trade, tourism and investment.
They have signed a series of important cooperation agreements in the last three years, including MoUs on education, legal affairs, anti-corruption and trade.
Two-way trade between the two countries has been significantly increasing over the last decade, up from 3 billion USD in 2002 to 19 billion USD in 2012. Indonesia is now the second largest ASEAN trade partner of Thailand.-VNA
