The People’s Committee in Quang Tri province and the Thai company ‘One ASEAN Development’ (OAD) have signed an agreement to develop an economic zone in the south-eastern part of the central province.

This was the outcome of a visit from May 20-26 by a delegation of senior officials from Quang Tri, led by the Chairman of the People’s Committee, Nguyen Duc Cuong, to promote the province’s potential to Thai partners.

The agreement provides an excellent opportunity for Quang Tri province, which is included in the East-West economic corridor, said Cuong, adding that in the future, the province will become an attractive destination for investors from Thailand and other regional countries.

With the deepwater harbour at My Thuy and the special economic zone in Lao Bao plus the above-mentioned project, Quang Tri province is determined to develop the most developed economic zone in Vietnam as well as in the ASEAN.

Under the deal, OAD, which boasts expertise in developing industries and infrastructure in Thailand , will focus on a number of projects at the economic zone, including an oil refinery, a natural gas processing plant, a petrochemical complex, a logistics centre, a multi-sector industrial area, an export processing zone and an entertainments and shopping centre.

The company will carry out field studies on the projects from June 1 and complete the preparatory work within six months.

According to OAD’s Chairman Bhichit Rattakul, Quang Tri has a huge potential for economic development as it lies between the country’s northern and southern regions.

He added that the company intends to turn Quang Tri into the most attractive destination for businesses in Southeast Asia and the industrial capital of ASEAN.-VNA
