Thailand’s government on September 1 decided to lift the imposition of the Internal Security Act (ISA) in Bangkok’s Dusit district.

Accordingly, all military troops deployed to protect the Government House and government offices in the district will be ordered to withdraw on the evening of Sept. 1.

The Thai government imposed the ISA from August 29 to September 1 as a measure to deal with the “red-shirt” movement’s Aug. 30 mass anti-government rally. However, the organisers of the protest, the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) which is leading the movement, decided to postpone the rally till Sept. 5.

Also at the Sept. 1 meeting, the Thai government approved a charter on organising special cabinet meetings to consider the imposition of the ISA at any time that the anti-government group announces it will hold mass rallies./.
