Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – The Healthcare Accreditation Institute (HIA) has organised activities to mark “World Patient Safety Day” (September 17), emphasising quality service for patients and confidence among health workers.

Assistant to Thailand's Minister of Public Health, Dr. Tawach Suntrajarn, chaired the start of a practical meeting organised on the occasion of World Patient Safety Day and National Patient and Healthcare Worker Safety Day.

Kicking off the proceedings, Dr. Tawach explained the Ministry of Public Health seeks to provide both quality service to patients as well as ensure the safety of medical workers so that they may feel confident while performing their duties.

The ministry’s strategy in these areas for 2018 to 2021 consists of five tasks, namely creating capable and safety-minded public health practitioners, building cooperation between civil networks, patients and health organisations, developing support mechanisms for public health, building a database of healthcare results and enhancing the efficiency of public health monitoring and governance based on lessons extrapolated from unforeseen circumstances.

A committee, comprising representatives from 16 organisations and institutions, including the HIA, has been assembled to carry out the strategy. -NNT/VNA
