Bangkok (VNA/NNT) – Thailand Rice Convention 2017 or TRC 2017, a premier international forum for rice, was held from May 28-30 by the Department of Foreign Trade under the Thai Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with related organisations from both the public and private sectors.

Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening ceremony of the TRC 2017 and delivered a keynote speech on "Thai Rice Trade and Its Future", outlining the government policies towards sustainable development of the Thai rice industry.

Apiradi Tantraporn, Minister of Commerce, said that Thailand rice convention 2017 was held under the theme "rice plus" to showcase Thailand's potential in the global arena for quality rice trade and production.

Various innovative rice products were presented at the event, showing how far the Thai rice industry has advanced in its technological development and technological integration, in response to the government's Thailand 4.0 initiative to transform Thailand into a value-based economy.

Jeremy Zwinger, the CEO of the Rice Trader Co., Ltd, said among other issues discussed were opportunities for sustainable development of the Thai rice industry through innovation and research, experience sharing and perspectives in rice innovation.-VNA
